Dipladenia (Mandevilla)

Dipladenia has glossy leaves and large, conspicuous, trumpet-shaped flowers. From May to September, you can enjoy its numerous, colourful flowers that are available in a wide range of shades, from white to yellow, rose, pink and purple.

Dipladenia (Mandevilla), Red Riding Hood, is a colourful climber that flowers easily from spring to autumn

D. boliviensis has white flowers with a yellow centre. D. sanderi has whitish, rose, pink or purple flowers like the hybrid varieties that are characterised as larger, sturdier plants with larger flowers.

Since Dipladenia is a climber, it is available trained on a hoop or as a pyramid, but it also loves to twine round branches, a bamboo lattice, etc. This way, you can shape the plant as you like.

Dipladenia thrives excellently in a south window. It is one of the few houseplants that tolerates direct summer sunlight. If placed in such a position, you will of course have to water it often and amply.

However, Dipladenia thrives best if placed outdoors in a tub, container or directly in a garden bed in a sunny location or in semi-shade if the temperature does not fall below 5° C. There, Dipladenia will be a source of great pleasure to you throughout the summer since it is an incredible hardy plant that does not require much care, simply water it in hot, dry periods. This is also why Dipladenia is used widely as an outdoor, ornamental plant in Southern Europe. After pruning in the autumn, Dipladenia can overwinter in a cool, bright location.

Dipladenia, which also carries the more modern name Mandevilla, is available from April to September.
