GASA GROUP (October 29, 2010) - The intention is to equip all Standard CC trolleys with new RFID tags by 10 January 2011 and the aim is to monitor the authenticity and quality of the pool system. The industry says it is too expensive and too complex to carry out the necessary scanning and procedural changes.
The project partners GASA GROUP, Container Centralen, Landgard, FloraHolland and the VGB are taking the concerns seriously. After intensive consultation, procedures have been adapted so that GASA GROUP, Landgard and FloraHolland take a more prominent role in achieving a closed high quality pool and in detecting misuse and at the same time avoiding extra costs for users. The project partners will support establishing a control group, that will investigate and report on any suspicious flows or patterns.

GASA GROUP scans CC containers for authenticity from 10 January
GASA GROUP is introducing RFID scanning to its own goods inward processes on the terminals all over Europe. As of 10 January 2011, containers that do not have a new tag will be rejected in all GASA GROUP processes.
Containers with a new tag will be scanned and accepted by GASA GROUP from this date onwards. To clarify this please note that new tags that are not scannable or give an error message will also be accepted and included in the customers balance, but those that are not scannable or give an error message will, however, be recorded for further pattern analysis. If patterns and quantities are considered suspicious, GASA GROUP will contact the relevant people in the control group. This extra registration and follow up is necessary in order to avoid a repeating story of illegal and empty tags being introduced into the pool.
If the situation demands it, it may be decided to move scanning closer to external pickup points temporarily, so that any misuse can be detected - An action that will be in the interest of both client and GASA GROUP.

What does this mean for customers?
GASA GROUP and its customers have a common responsibility for achieving a future-proof pool. In mid-December, CC will send all customers the new tags. These tags should be attached to the containers from 10 January 2011 onwards.
Up to 10 January 2011, Container Centralen is offering users the opportunity to introduce containers to the pool at a significantly reduced rate of 6 Euros apiece in order to strengthen the current pool. After 10 January, this will raise to the previously communicated rate of 18 Euros.
Will nobody besides the Control group partners scan? Several large operators on the European market are signaling that they will scan and pick up the necessary information to ensure warning and action if false RFID tags are introduced into the pool. A range of participants will probably decide not to scan. GASA GROUP recommends that each party considers own business setup an takes measures accordingly. The announced procedures also give room for parties only to scan specific inflows, identified as having a higher risk of misuse.

Over the next few months, GASA GROUP will keep you fully informed of developments and procedures arising from the tagging operation.
